Special silk covering of the prophet’s mosque - Ottomans era

A rare piece dating back to the thirteenth century of the Hijra year 1241 AH, made by order of Sultan Mahmud Khan bin Sultan Abdulhamid Khan. Embroidered with gold and silver plated threads and enriched with additional pieces of red and green Atlas silk. The exquisite aesthetic of the Qur’anic verses woven in the center of the curtain and the surrounding motifs express the creative ancient Islamic traditions and culture. It is surrounded by a lining of cotton cloth that protected it from damages.
